Are these black screens only in Edge or where else in Windows?

I'll give you everything that works to fix Edge so at least something will work:

Back up your Favorites first in Edge Settings > Import from another Browser > Export to a File. If you can't reach Edge you can install the tiny app Manage Edge Favorites here: http://www.emmet-gray.com/Articles/EdgeManage.html to do this, which also gives Edge all of the Favorites Management enjoyed in Internet Explorer.

You can reset new Edge in Edge Settings > Reset Settings, or for old Edge in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features, scroll down to Microsoft Edge, highlight it, choose Advanced Options, then Repair, or if that fails, Reset.

I would have several browsers on your task bar so there's always one that's best for the task. I use Firefox, Edge and Chrome in that order of preference. It's easy to share bookmarks between all of them in their settings under Import Favorites from another Browser, and Firefox and Chrome let you sign in to save and/or sync your Favorites on any other device you sign into. Set the preferred browser as Default in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This will also bring it up to the latest version 1909 which you need anyway by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

Hi and thank you for answering

I updated Microsoft edge and had never had any problems with it at all

but the next day the black screen when I sign on to desktop gold aol or IE but no black screen on microsoft edge

The black screens comes and blinks and goes away and comes back  and goes away about 5 times and then no more until I close down and restart the computer and this has annoyed me but am also used to it now...

Hi Betty,

Your issue is one that was present in the new Edge browser (based on Chromium, I call it "Edgemium") since its birth.  The issue has been reported by millions yet has persisted all the way through all 3 of the public preview builds (canary, dev, beta), and the final/RTM version.

If you report this issue through the feedback option in Edgemium, you'll get told that they're working on a fix.

An easy solution when you have this problem (which for me is after the computer resumes from screen off/locked) is to just press CTRL+N (means New Window).  This will open a new Edgemium window, and you can just close it, because all Edgemium windows will have their color back.

I just ran into this issue on my system.

Edge build 81.0.416.58

Nvidia Graphics Driver 445.87

The entire edge interface is black. I can click where the menu button is and the edge menu will appear.

To fix I have to open task manager and kill the Microsoft Edge sub-process with the most memory usage and then the interface appears again.

I have completely black screen image attached here and there is no where to click and in uninstall dialogue there is also black screen

I've had this issue, but it was resolved. This issue was caused when I would just open Microsoft Edge and be using it for a while, then minimizing it and reopening it would give the black screen. All I had to do was leave Microsoft Edge running in the black screen. The black screen means that Microsoft Edge is updating. I had to leave it at a black screens for about 30 mins then End Task with Task Manager. I reopened Microsoft Edge and my issue was fixed.
