Every disciple of Christ has an account with God in heaven, according to Philippians 4:17. Your very own personal account was opened in heaven the moment you received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. From that time up until now, you have an account in your name. The good news about your account in heaven is that you make deposits and withdrawals while here on earth.

Unfortunately, many disciples do not know they have an account. Also, there are some who know they have an account, but they do not deposit anything into it. Others know they have an account, but they don't know they can make withdrawals while on earth when they need to. What they need to know is that the account is located in heaven, but it should be operated on earth because there will be no need for a bank when we get to heaven. Therefore, it is wise to learn the details about your bank account and use it while on earth.

Now that you know you have an account in heaven, there are some other important things you should know. Your account in heaven is similar to your bank account here on earth, but it is also different.

In both banks, you are required to make deposits if you expect to make withdrawals. No doubt people pay more attention to their physical bank accounts on earth where they can see them. Jesus taught that we should not lay up our treasures on earth but in heaven where we are sure nothing will happen to it (Matthew 6:19-20). Our account in the earthly bank could be affected by an economic crisis or treasures stolen by robbers.

Making Deposits

Account holders in banks on earth know they must fill out a deposit slip and give it to the bank teller along with money or a check. There is a different way to make a deposit into your account in heaven. In fact, you don't deposit money.

You make deposits into your heavenly account by practicing Matthew 6:33 that says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." When you continuously work in the Kingdom of God, you make deposits into your own account. This also includes living a righteous life for all to see Jesus in you and desire to have Him too (1 Peter 2:12).

Please know that we don't serve God to get paid, but we serve Him because after we get saved there is something within us that makes us want to serve Him. God doesn't pay us, but He rewards us.

Whenever we please God with our lives, we make deposits (Colossians 1:10). So what about withdrawals?

Making a Withdrawal

In order to get money from your earthly bank account, you need to withdraw it. You go to the bank and present a withdrawal slip with the amount of money you want to take from your account. Keep in mind that you can take only what you have put in.

You can also go to the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) on earth and withdraw money you have deposited. How do you make a withdrawal from your bank account in heaven?

Making a withdrawal from your bank account in heaven is different from going to the ATM. In fact, your withdrawal is not in the form of money. It is what you need such as healing, restoration of relationships, a closer walk with God, etc.

You make a withdrawal by reading the promises of God concerning your particular need. You meditate on God's promises and believe He will do what He says He will do. You thank God before the provision is manifested.

When you make a withdrawal from your account, it should line up with the promises of God. He will not allow you to make deposits or withdrawals that go against His word.

Believe that you will receive what God promised. Matthew 7:7 says ask and you shall receive, but Mark 11:24 says that you need to believe before you receive. Therefore, don't wait until you see the physical manifestation to thank God for your withdrawal.

Important Things to Know

In your earthly bank, your deposit is money and your withdrawal is money. That is not the case with your spiritual bank. What you put in and what you take out will almost never match. For instance, you can make a withdrawal for healing based on a good deed you did for someone that did not involve healing.

Another important thing to know is that all disciples of Christ have an account in heaven even if they do not make deposits and withdrawals. Sometimes people do good deeds and a deposit is made automatically. They might fail to make a withdrawal even though they can.

According to Acts 10:1-4, a man named Cornelius was a devout and God-fearing man who gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. One day God reminded Cornelius of his good deeds and encouraged him to make a withdrawal from his account.

Don't you think it is time to start using your bank account in heaven? It is there for you to use.
